‘We Live Inside A Dream” at the North Bend Theatre, August 13-16, 2026

The historic North Bend Theatre in North Bend, Washington is hosting “We Live Inside a Dream” from August 13-16, 2026, celebrating the 34th Anniversary of the North American premiere of David Lynch’s Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me. This prequel to the groundbreaking television series was first shown in the small town movie theatre on August 16, 1992. This year’s event features two new documentaries about the nearby Twede’s Cafe, guided meditation, a musical performance and screenings of Lynch’s films.

‘WE LIVE INSIDE’ A DREAM AT THE NORTH BEND THEATRE ON AUGUST 13-16, 2026

Built in 1941, the North Bend Theatre, located at 125 Bendigo Boulevard North in downtown North Bend, is a stunning example of Art Moderne architecture, with its curved façade, neon marquee, and art deco flourishes that evoke the golden age of cinema. This single-screen movie house has retained its vintage charm while evolving into a dynamic cultural hub for the Snoqualmie Valley.

On August 16, 1992, New Line Cinema held the North American premiere of David Lynch’s masterpiece, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me, at this theatre. The event was part of the first Twin Peaks Fan Festival and was attended by Lynch and the film’s stars such as Sheryl Lee (Laura Palmer), Ray Wise (Leland Palmer), Moira Kelly (Donna Hayward) and others.

To celebrate the 34th Anniversary of the film’s premiere, the North Bend Theatre has a weekend of programming from August 13-16.

THURSDAY, AUGUST 13, 2026 – TWEDE’S CAFE DOCUMENTARIES

On Thursday, August 13, the theatre kicks off the weekend with a double feature of the first two parts of the documentary, “FROM THOMPSON’S TO TWEDE’S: The History of North Bend, Washington’s Mar-T Cafe.” Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7:00 p.m. Tickets include a slice of the world-famous cherry pie from Twede’s Cafe.

Part One was produced by Jared Lyon and traces the early history of the North Bend diner made famous as the Double R in Twin Peaks.

Beginning with Roy Thompson’s lunchroom in the McClellan Hotel during the 1920s and ’30s, the film follows the family business through North Bend’s 1940 highway expansion, the construction of Thompson’s Café at North Bend Way and Bendigo Boulevard, and Cecil Thompson’s wartime service while his wife, Caroline, kept the restaurant running.

The story continues through the Thompsons’ move to the McGrath Hotel and the opening of the Mar-T Café by Frank Marsolais and Don Tift in 1952 – revealing how two competing cafés, a world war, and a changing small town laid the foundation for an unlikely television landmark.

Part Two was produced by Brian Kursar and picks up where Part One left off chronicling the transformation of the Mar-T Café under the leadership of Pat Cokewell, who passed peacefully on April 22, 2026 at the age of 95.

Following the transition from its original family ownership to sisters Margit Halverson and Jo Tingelstad, the film explores how a pivotal union strike in 1975 reshaped the business and ultimately led Pat, who had joined the staff in 1971, to purchase the café in 1976.

Under her ownership, the Mar-T flourished as a beloved community gathering place, supporting local sports teams and charitable causes. The story then follows the café’s unexpected entry into pop-culture history in 1989 when David Lynch selected it as a key filming location for Twin Peaks. Pat recalls the whirlwind of attention surrounding her famous cherry pies, the arrival of the show’s cast and crew, and the diner’s return to the screen in Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me.

After Jared and Brian’s short films, Scott Ryan will show, “The Double R Dream,” his 45-minute documentary about his six days working at Twede’s Cafe in February 2026 during the Real Twin Peaks event. Starring the cafe’s staff, this entertaining film includes several interviews with Twin Peaks fan community legends. The film features a score by Daniel Knox and was produced by Brian Kursar, Rachel Bennett and Steven Miller (hey, that’s me!). It is a very funny film with lots of heart.

Immediately following screenings, there will be a question and answer session with Scott Ryan and Rachel and Max, owners of Twede’s Cafe.

FRIDAY, AUGUST 14, 2026 – GUIDED MEDITATION AND MULHOLLAND DRIVE

On Friday, August 14, attendees will enjoy a guided meditation session followed by David Lynch’s award-winning film from 2001, Mulholland Drive. Doors will open at 6:00 p.m. with the meditation session beginning at 6:30 p.m. The film will be screened starting at 7:00 p.m.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 15, 2026 – TWIN PEAKS: FIRE WALK WITH ME

A screening of Lynch’s Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me will be held on Saturday, August 15.  The evening will begin at 6:00 p.m. with “Inside the Dream,” a audio/visual performance inspired by Twin Peaks and the world of David Lynch. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. with Lynch’s feature starting at 7:00 p.m. following the musical performance.

AUGUST 16, 2026 – TWIN PEAKS: FIRE WALK WITH ME AND THE MISSING PIECES

On the morning of Sunday, August 16, the 34th Anniversary of David Lynch’s 1992 film, the theatre will screen the 2014 release, Twin Peaks: The Missing Pieces. This compilation of deleted and extended scenes from Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me will begin at 11:00 a.m. with doors opening at 10:30 a.m. Your ticket will include doughnuts to enjoy during the film.
