Philosophical Research Society

Every Wednesday in July 2026, join the Philosophical Research Society (PRS) for “Places Wonderful and Strange – A Cinemyth Lecture Series on Lynch’s L.A. & the Mysteries of Twin Peaks.” PRS contributing artists, scholars, and special guests to walk into the mysteries of the woods and greet the esoteric ideas and images animating Twin Peaks’ mythogeography.

William Kiesel, Devon Deimler, and Guadalupe Arellanes, of PRS’ esoteric Gotta Light? panel are back to present individual deep-dives into the series’ dreams and doubles, myths and symbols, hauntologies and spiritual philosophies.

David Lynch's Los Angeles

The series begins on July 1 with a special crossover kickoff with PRS’s Yesterday LA series and Amanda Karkoutly’s exploration of David Lynch’s LA. This event will explore the shadows beneath the sunshine of Los Angeles, a city that embodies Lynch’s famous duality: beauty and terror, sunshine and lurking shadows, both the dream and the nightmare.

Amanda Karkoutly of @cahuengapast will present a slideshow of select filming locations from Lynch’s works, go through some unique histories of locations, and celebrate parts of Los Angeles that held meaning for one of the city’s greatest champions. Lynch’s work encourages finding both the terror and the paradise in the mundane, the seemingly innocuous dumpsters and roads of Los Angeles. Come walk in the footsteps of genius and see how Los Angeles is a city that truly deserves the description of “Lynchian.”

The month-long celebration will conclude on July 22nd with a birthday celebration of Twin Peaks’ unfading muse, Laura Palmer.

Lost Highway movie poster

Prince Charles Cinema, located at 7 Leicester Pl, London, WC2H 7BY, is screening David Lynch’s Lost Highway in 4K on Sunday, July 12, 2026.

From this inventory of imagery, Lynch fashions two separate but intersecting stories, one about a jazz musician (Bill Pullman), tortured by the notion that his wife is having an affair, who suddenly finds himself accused of her murder. The other is a young mechanic (Balthazar Getty) drawn into a web of deceit by a temptress who is cheating on her gangster boyfriend. These two tales are linked by the fact that the women in both are played by the same actress (Patricia Arquette).

In this prequel to his groundbreaking 1990s television series, David Lynch resurrects the teenager found wrapped in plastic at the beginning of the show, following her through the last week of her life and teasing out the enigmas that surround her murder. Nightmarish in its vision of an innocent torn apart by unfathomable forces, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me is nevertheless one of Lynch’s most humane films, aching with compassion for its tortured heroine.

JUNE 6-11, 2026 | IFC CENTER IN NEW YORK, NEW YORK

Betty and Rita at Club Silencio in Mulholland Drive

The IFC Center is screening David Lynch’s 2001 masterpiece Mulholland Drive from June 6-11, 2026. This 4K Restoration screening will be held all week at the center located at 323 6th Avenue in New York, New York.

“Fashioned from the ruins of a two-hour TV pilot rejected by ABC in 1999, Lynch’s erotic thriller careens from one violent non sequitur to another. The movie boldly teeters on the brink of self-parody, reveling in its own excess and resisting narrative logic. This voluptuous phantasmagoria is certainly Lynch’s strongest movie since Blue Velvet and maybe Eraserhead

From the absurd midnight automobile accident on the Los Angeles road that opens the movie and gives it its title, MULHOLLAND DR. makes perfect (irrational) sense. Lynch’s outlandish noir feels familiar, and yet it’s continually surprising, as when a bungled assassination turns into a Rube Goldberg mechanism involving two additional victims, a vacuum cleaner, and a smoke detector, or a scene begins with an abrupt eruption of pink and turquoise and a studio rendition of the Connie Stevens chestnut ‘Sixteen Reasons (Why I Love You).’

The 9:15 showing on June 10 will feature a MULHOLLAND DR. themed drag performance by Miss Malice, a high femme dyke drag artist who has been captivating New York City audiences since 2013. She is the resident “femmecee” of the award-winning drag collective Switch n’ Play (@switchnplay), a featured artist at Sasha Velour’s NightGowns drag revue, and the co-producer of IN DREAMS, a drag celebration of David Lynch. A certified “scene” queen, she also hosts a bi-monthly drag film screening series entitled Miss Malice presents. (Missmaliceofficial.com)
