In the Pilot Episode of Twin Peaks, Catherine Martell is reading a newspaper in the kitchen at Blue Pin Lodge when Pete Martell tells her he’s “gone fishing.” The Blue Pine Lodge is actually Kiana Lodge located in Poulsbo, Washington. I first visited this location when I attended the 1996 Twin Peaks Fan Festival.
The Pilot Episode is only time this location was used. For the remainder of Seasons 1 and 2, the kitchen was a set (look for a future “Setting the Stage” article about the Blue Pine Lodge kitchen).
Kiana Lodge was the first real Twin Peaks film location I visited during the festival. I took a few additional photos of the location, frozen in time from the mid-1990s.
I wish I would have photographed this location the way it was seen in the Pilot Episode (ala InTwinPeaks.com style).
Nevertheless, I was delighted to visit the location in 1996 as it had not dramatically changed from the time when the Pilot Episode was shot.
For example, the windows behind Pete look similar to the windows in my second personal photo above. Look carefully at the photo above and you’ll spot a mug from McDonald’s as identified on the incredible Twin Peaks Props website.
