Special Agent Dale Cooper and Audrey Horne had a unique relationship during the first half of Twin Peaks. Naturally, they were the subject of several publicity photos captured during summer 1989 by the late ABC Television photographer Craig Sjodin. This color transparency I acquired at auction shows Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan) and Audrey (Sherilyn Fenn) on the set of the Double R Diner in Van Nuys, California. The image is part of a sequence of images from a scene that never happened in the place where pies go when they die.
COLOR TRANSPARENCY – AUDREY HORNE AND DALE COOPER AT THE DOUBLE R DINER
Using my Epson V600 scanner, I scanned the color transparency of Audrey Horne and Dale Cooper at the Double R Diner in halves since this Epson scanner doesn’t contain a large transparency scanning window. I then combined the parts via Adobe Lightroom’s photo merge feature.
The scene never actually happened in the show – Cooper and Audrey didn’t interact at the Double R Diner. In fact, the only time Audrey Horne appears at the diner is in episode 1.002 where she dances to “dreamy music.”

The transparency is a slightly cropped image versus this publicity photo found on The Mauve Zone. Both photos were taken by Craig Sjodin who worked for 39 yeasr as a still photographer for ABC Television and The Walt Disney Company. He passed on September 15, 2023 as a result of injuries sustained from a bicycling accident.

The duo is seated on the right side of the diner, something we don’t really see throughout the first season. The first glimpse of the dinner’s other side is seen when Cooper arrives at the Double R in episode 1.003.

In the following episode, we see someone seated at the table and chairs on the diner’s right side.

The diner’s right side was redesigned for scenes in the latter part of the second season. It’s best seen when Cooper tries telling Annie Blackburn a joke in episode 2.018.
AUDREY HORNE AND DALE COOPER’S OUTFITS

Their publicity photo outfits match their clothing from episode 1.005, which may have been filmed sometime around November 20, 1989. Other scenes from this episode were shot around this time (such as the Log Lady’s cabin scenes).
Audrey appears to wear the same skirt and hand-painted saddle shoes seen in this publicity photo from the Twin Peaks pilot.
