Julee Cruise reimagined Psych’s theme song, “I Know, You Know,” infusing it with the haunting ambiance characteristic of Twin Peaks. This rendition set the tone for the episode, immersing viewers in a familiar yet distinct atmosphere. It was the twelfth episode of season five which aired on Dec. 1, 2010.

The production team had fun meticulously crafting the episode to playfully yet respectfully honor Twin Peaks, from the casting of original actors to the recreation of its enigmatic tone. This dedication extended to the musical elements, with Cruise’s involvement being a significant highlight.

Curt Wagner from The Chicago Tribune discussed this playful episode in an article published on Dec. 1, 2010 titled, “‘Twin Peaks’ back? Psych!” Wagner discussed series composer Adam Cohen’s reworked “Psych” theme song.

“When the ‘Psych’ opening credits sequence plays to kick off Wednesday’s ‘Dual Spires’ episodes, fans may not recognize it right away. That’s because series composer Adam Cohen re-worked the ‘Psych’ song to mirror the ‘Twin Peaks’ theme sung by Julee Cruise.

‘It’s my favorite of the different renditions we’ve done of our theme songs,’ series star and producer James Roday said. ‘It’s pretty inspired. … Julee came in and just nailed the vocals. And yes, we’re all pretty stoked about the theme song.'”

JULEE CRUISE’S ‘I KNOW, YOU KNOW” THEME SONG TO ‘PSYCH’

Julee’s rendition of the Psych Theme song comes in at 9 minutes and 32 seconds in the episode and is short and sweet. To honor Julee and the Twin Peaks cast, I decided to have a go at editing a remix for all of you to enjoy.

The episode concludes with Cruise’s 1993 track “Kool Kat Walk,” composed by Angelo Badalamenti with lyrics by David Lynch, further cementing the connection between the two series.

Cruise’s contribution not only honored her legacy in Twin Peaks but also enriched the episode’s narrative, creating a memorable crossover that I continue to revisit often.
