Twin Peaks Publicity – Twin Peaks Year Two Slide – Heather Graham as Annie Blackburn

I love finding rare gems that I’ve never seen in all the years of being a Twin Peaks fan. I particularly like production paperwork as it provides insight into what it took to create the wonderful and strange show I adore. One such thing is a Worldvision Enterprises, Inc. press kit for “Year Two” of Mark Frost and David Lynch’s ground breaking show. It contained storylines, newspaper clippings, paperwork about on-screen credits, musical cues and a collection of “Twin Peaks – Yr. 2” slides. In the coming months, I’ll be digging deep into this rare archive on Twin Peaks Blog. For now, I’m sharing the first of two dozen photo slides featuring Heather Graham as Annie Blackburn.

The “Twin Peaks – Yr. 2.” photo slide from Worldvision Enterprises, Inc. features a photo of Heather Graham as Annie Blackburn taking an order at the Double R Diner.

The scanned image reveals a full-color image of Annie holding a blue pen and taking an order.

The scene is from Twin Peaks episode 2.018 when she is speaking with Special Agent Dale Cooper and Sheriff Harry S. Truman at the Double R Diner. Truman had just ordered a chicken pot pie and a tall glass of milk.

IS IT ANNIE BLACKBURN OR ANNIE BLACKBURNE?

Interestingly, the script for episode 2.018 written by Harley Peyton and Robert Engels adds an “e” to then end of Annie’s last name – “Blackburne.”

ANNIE BLACKBURNE moves to the booth to take their order. They’re staring out the window. Annie does as well.

This is how it would appear in newspaper articles toward the end of the show’s second season. That spelling is found in numerous press materials including the “Year Two” press kit.

Twin Peaks - Year Two Storylines Cover page

The “Year Two” press kit contained storylines for each of the second season episodes. The cover page had a simple title – “Twin Peaks / Year Two / Storylines.” These storylines were basically press releases sent to media outlets to help summarize the various episodes. Sometimes they were printed word for word

MIDNIGHT SPELUNKING AND NAKED WOMAN’S DEADLY EMBRACE AMONG THE STRANGE EVENTS ON TWIN PEAKS

Agent Cooper and the Sheriffs Department go midnight spelunking; Truman awakens in the murderous embrace of a naked woman; Audrey Horne and Donna Hayward witness a strange meeting: Windom Earle insinuates himself in the lives of his potential victims; and love is in the air, on Twin Peaks.

Starring are Kyle MacLachlan as FBI Agent Dale Cooper, Michael Ontkean as Sheriff Harry S. Truman, Piper Laurie as Catherine Martell, Joan Chen as Jocelyn Packard, Mädchen Amick as Shelly Johnson, Dana Ashbrook as Bobby Briggs, Richard Beymer as Benjamin Horne, Lara Flynn Boyle as Donna Hayward, Sherilyn Fenn as Audrey Horne, Warren Frost as Dr. William Hayward, Peggy Lipton as Norma Jennings, James Marshall as James Hurley, Everett McGill as Ed Hurley.

Jack Nance as Pete Martell and Kimmy Robertson as Lucy Moran. Also starring are Eric Da Re as Leo Johnson, Harry Goaz as Deputy Andy Brennan, Michael Horse as Tommy “The Hawk” Hill, Kenneth Welsh as Windom Earle, and Russ Tamblyn as Dr. Lawrence Jacoby.

Guest starring are Wendy Robie as Nadine Hurley, Gary Hershberger as Mike Nelson, Mary Jo Deschanel as Eileen Hayward, Heather Graham as Annie Blackburne, David Lynch as Gordon Cole, Billy Zane as John Justice Wheeler, Catherine Coulson as The Log Lady and Brenda Strong as Jones.

###

Heather Graham was typically credited just after the opening credits. Her character’s name, however, never appears on screen during the second season.

Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me credits
Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me

By the time the credits rolled for Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me in 1992, Annie’s last name became “Blackburn” (no “e”). The film’s script by David Lynch and Robert Engels from August 8, 1991 uses Blackburn, not Blackburne.

[Laura] turns to her right to see who it is, then turning back to her left she discovers ANNIE BLACKBURN lying in bed with her. Annie has blood around her mouth. She tries to raise herself and strains to speak.

I’m guessing the change in spelling was more of an oversight versus having some significant meaning.
