Twin Peaks Publicity – Benjamin Horne in Overcoat

Benjamin Horne's face

While filming the first season of Twin Peaks, several actors posed for individual character publicity photos. Take Richard Beymer who played Benjamin Horne in all three seasons of David Lynch and Mark Frost’s show. He’s seen posing for a photo wearing an overcoat with a red polka dot tie, a mismatched outfit from different episodes not seen together during the show’s original run.

This publicity photo of Richard Beymer as Benjamin Horne from Twin Peaks was taken by the late ABC Television photographer most likely in 1989 during production of the first season.

The image comes from a photo slide I acquired at auction which has a copyright of 1990 Craig Sjodin / Capital Cities / ABC.

Episode 1.001

In the publicity photo, Ben is wearing a red polka dot tie with a striped white dress shirt as seen here at the Timber Falls Motel.

Episode 1.002

He wears the same dress shirt and tie in episode 1.002 as seen when his brother Jerry Horne returns from Paris bearing baguettes with Brie and butter.

Episode 1.004

The overcoat, however, won’t make an appearance until episode 1.004 when Ben meets Leo Johnson in the woods. In this scene, Ben is sporting a different color tie.

People gathered at a funeral
Episode 1.003

Interestingly, Johnny Horne appears to wear the tan colored overcoat during Laura Palmer’s funeral in the previous episode, 1.003. Maybe Johnny decided to borrow the coat during the somber yet eventful gathering. Ben will never wear the coat again after episode 1.004.

You can see more of Ben Horne’s outfits throughout all three seasons in this Twin Peaks Blog article.
