Throughout the years I’ve been researching David Lynch and Mark Frost’s Twin Peaks, I found several references to a review in the September 1989 Connoisseur magazine. This was the first of many positive reviews about how the show would change television. I recently found a used copy of the magazine on eBay, which I examine from an archival…
Lately I’ve been discussing the film festival premieres for the Twin Peaks pilot episode. In between these festivals, the pilot was screened for the Television Critics Association during ABC Television’s winter press tour on January 6, 1990. Thanks to numerous newspaper reports, I’ve pieced together what took place that day in Universal City, California.
While researching the Southern California film location for Laura Palmer’s funeral in episode 1003 of Twin Peaks, I discovered the broadcasted version contained many differences compared to the script. This article joins a running list of stories about more Missing Pieces or deleted scenes from my favorite television show.
Time for another detailed look at a set from Twin Peaks in a recurring series titled “Setting the Stage.” For this exercise, I wanted to see how the views looking out from the Twin Peaks Sheriff’s Department changed during the series and film. The inspiration for this story came from a 1989 newspaper article which had an…
For my quest to document every film Twin Peaks location, I want to identify and examine all the scenes that were shot on soundstages. While the overall location will be consistent for all of these scenes, the details uncovered will be interesting to explore. Let’s start with Dougie Jones’ appearance in the Red Room from Part…
From One-Eyed Jacks to Windom Earle’s doctored cards, playing cards have played an important role in Twin Peaks since the very beginning. It was no surprise to find them in the most recent season on Showtime. While researching the film location for the cheap motel in Buckhorn, I identified the card Mr. C shows Darya and soon…
A cluster of buildings sit on a nondescript corner of a desert road outside Palmdale, California. Surrounded by Joshua Trees and nestled in the shadow of a beige-colored mountain, these seemingly abandoned buildings look like something from a bygone era. Things are not what they seem, however, as the diner, gas station and motel are…
Twin Peaks Blog would not exist without the incredible websites that were around long before mine. Like the Bookhouse Boys, I’m now continuing the work started by those before me. I’ve mentioned the defunct InTwinPeaks.com that sparked my hunt to find all of the film locations. Another essential site launched in 1999 was Dugpa.com. A…
David Lynch’s Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me is filled with some of the most hauntingly beautiful moments ever captured on film. Of the many scenes in the film, Laura Palmer’s brief encounter with Margaret Lanterman, The Log Lady, just outside the Roadhouse is incredibly powerful. This scene was shot in Fall City, Washington, outside…
The Rancho Rosa Estates film location tour wraps up with a scene from Twin Peaks Part 5. A group of five thieves (or punks if you’d prefer) attempt to steal Dougie Jones’ vehicle and get a rather enlightening surprise. Thanks to the Behind the Curtain footage from the Twin Peaks – From Z to A Collection, we…
