Last year was my first time participating in Record Store Day. I had a good reason to go – multiple soundtracks to Twin Peaks on Showtime were released on picture disc vinyl. At the time, I thought my day long adventure would be a one-of-a-kind experience until I saw a tweet from @TwinPeaksBook on February 28, 2019. The incredible Twin Peaks Season Two Music and More soundtrack would be released for Record Store Day 2019! I guess Twin Peaks continues surprising me even after all these years.

The official Record Store Day website posted information about the release:
“The missing piece in the incredibly successful new release and reissue campaign for the Twin Peaks series has been the mysterious soundtrack to Season Two! The TV program aired in 1990-1991, without the traditional accompanying record release, and it was not until 2007 that the soundtrack album was issued, and only as a very limited CD via David Lynch’s own label. And so we have an artefact that has never been available on digital services, and more importantly, never on vinyl, and long gone on CD. And so there is nothing more ready for plugging into the set of Twin Peaks releases from Rhino, especially following on from the acclaimed pair of Season 3 soundtrack albums from 2017! Once again we have David Lynch himself overseeing the reissue pressed on 180g vinyl & with stills from the film included in the gatefold jacket. This is a release that will be eagerly embraced by Twin Peaks fans, & a great addition to our much beloved Twin Peaks catalog. Limited to 9000 copies worldwide.”
I vividly remember when this soundtrack was released on CD in 2007. That release also took me by surprise, especially since there were many tracks I had been longing to hear for 14 years (looking at you “Josie and Truman” and “Dark Mood Woods / The Red Room” and “Audrey’s Prayer.”).
The official Twin Peaks page on Facebook posted a short video about the release on April 12, 2019. Here are screen caps from that video which provided high-level details about the release.
The cover was clearly a departure from the 2007 CD release. According to the booklet credits, David Lynch provide Art Direction for the release. He was joined by Rory Wilson, who has been an Art Director for Rhino Entertainment since July 2013, for the Design and Layout.
After reading all the details about the release, I planned to return to Park Ave. CDs in Orlando, Florida where I had success finding the 2018 releases.
RECORD STORE DAY – APRIL 13, 2019
There are a handful of record shops in Central Florida, and Park Ave. CDs, located at 2916 Corrine Drive in Orlando, is one of the best. They are also one of the more popular shops for Record Store Day, so I knew I had to arrive early (especially since some fans started lining up at 11:00 a.m. on April 12!).
After donning my “Who Killed Laura Palmer?” shirt, my wife Katie and I arrived around 8:33 a.m. to find a line stretched in front of an adjacent gas station and down the block. I knew we should have arrived earlier but after living in Central Florida, you get used to waiting in lines for everything.
Fifty-five minutes passed and we finally made it to the front of the gas station. I spotted an advertisement for American Spirit cigarettes. While I don’t smoke, I immediately recognized the brand and took it as a sign that I would be successful in getting the album. Why?
American Spirit is the brand that Diane Evans smokes in Twin Peaks Season 3 on Showtime. In Part 16, we catch a glimpse of the cigarette packet in her handbag.
By one-hour and nine-minutes into Record Store Day 2019, we crossed to the other side of the line in front of the gas station. This meant we were half way to the entrance … HALF WAY.
As we got closer to the parking lot for Park Avenue CDs, I looked up. ELECTRICITY!
A variety of vendors and a DJ spinning tunes were set up in the parking lot out side the shop. One vendor – ShowIGoTo.com – was handing out FREE Pabst Blue Ribbon beer. Frank Booth would have been delighted. It also made me laugh as during Record Store Day 2018, I found another Blue Velvet reference when I crossed Lincoln on my way to a record shop in Lakeland, Florida.
Finally, after two-hours and fifty-four minutes, my wife Katie and I entered the shop. It was probably closer to two-hours and fifty-three (2:53!) but I forgot to push the stop button on the stopwatch immediately after entering the store.
Park Avenue CDs places all of the Record Store Day releases in one central area of the shop, which makes things easy to find. I still find it surreal to see Twin Peaks get its own divider.

Interestingly, the shop had a few Record Store Day releases from last year still available (in case you live in Central Florida and missed them). I also spotted two of the FUNKO Pop! Figures.
A few of the staff complemented my shirt, including Alex who took this photo for the Park Ave. CDs Instagram account. Always great to meet fellow Bookhouse Boys and Blue Rose Task Force Members in the community.
Besides the Season 2 soundtrack, I also found the original soundtrack to Blue Velvet. I couldn’t help returning to the ShowsIGoTo.com booth to get a photo. Special thanks to Mitch Foster for taking the second photo above.
In fact, I found a few more albums that I wanted (not needed) including the soundtracks to Lost In Translation, Vertigo (!!), and, for my wife since it was our six month wedding anniversary, Charlotte’s Web. To round out my Record Store Day haul, I added “Charlie Parker With Strings – Alternate Takes” and “The Life Aquatic Studio Sessions Featuring Seu Jorge.”
Since I spent so much money, I got pick some free items. An employee directed my attention to the Bang Bang Bar keychains (but no one calls it the Bang Bang Bar … it’s the Roadhouse!).
We stopped in a shop next to Park Ave. CDs which had a rather unique (and unlicensed, I’m sure) Laura Palmer candle. I should have bought it too.
To top off the morning of vinyl albums and Pabst Blue Ribbon, Katie and I stopped at P Is For Pie to enjoy some damn fine, sweet cherry pie.
