Rittenhouse Archives – Twin Peaks Trading Cards 1-10 from Series 1

On August 22, 2018, ScifiHobby.com released the first series of Twin Peaks trading cards from Rittenhouse Archives. The collection documents the all three seasons of the series and includes plot synopsis, autographed cards, character cards, quote cards and more. This article looks at the first 10 cards in the base set series of 90 cards.

For this analysis, I’m including the card images as well as screen caps from the respective episodes. I’ve included both the episode production name and the episode titles first bestowed by a German television station during a rebroadcast in the early 1990s.

CARD 1 – EPISODE 1000 – PILOT

The front of card 1 includes Sheriff Harry S. Truman and Doctor Hayward discovering the body of Laura Palmer on the beach outside Blue Pine Lodge, home to the Packard family.

The back of card 1 includes an image of Sheriff Truman being confronted by Bobby Briggs in the library at Twin Peaks High School.

The synopsis reads:

“Pete Martell leaves home to go fishing and finds a dead body by the lake, wrapped in plastic. When Sheriff Harry Truman, Deputy Andy Brennan and Dr. Will Hayward arrive, they discover that the dead girl is high school student Laura Palmer. Her mother and father, Sarah and Leland Palmer, are shattered. The news reaches school, where Laura’s friend Donna Hayward breaks down in tears. Deputies Andy and Hawk question Laura’s boyfriend, Bobby Briggs, who insists he’s innocent. Hawk searches Laura’s room and finds a diary and camcorder. Meanwhile, another girl – Ronette Pulaski – is missing.”

The synopsis reads:

“After Ronette Pulaski turns up, bruised and unresponsive, FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper arrives in Twin Peaks to take charge of the investigation. His first discovery comes in the morgue: a tiny letter “R” beneath Laura Palmer’s fingernail. Elsewhere in town, Josie Packard clashes with her sister-in-law, Catherine Martell, about briefly closing the sawmill out of respect for Laura’s funeral. Cooper questions Bobby Briggs and Donna Hayward about a video found in Laura’s room. When the lawmen visit the murder scene, they find half of a heart necklace along with a note reading “Fire walk with me.” James Hurley has the other half.”

The synopsis reads:

“Inside Laura Palmer’s deposit box, FBI Special Agent Cooper and Sheriff Truman find $10,000 and a copy of Flesh World. Cooper holds a town meeting, at which a curfew is set for minors. Donna Hayward defies the curfew and sneaks off to the Bang Bang Bar. When a fight breaks out, Donna leaves and meets with James Hurley in the woods, and they bury his half of the necklace. Moments later, Truman and Cooper arrest James on suspicion of murder. Afterward, Truman visits his lover, Josie Packard. Meanwhile, Norma Jennings proprietor of the Double R Diner, plans a meeting with her paramour, Ed Hurley.”

CARD 4 – EPISODE 1001 – TRACES TO NOWHERE

A smiling Laura Palmer is seen on the back of card 4. James Hurley is remembering this conversation while speaking with Cooper and Truman at the Twin Peaks Sheriff’s Department.

The synopsis reads:

“Cooper records a message to his assistant, Diane, then meets Audrey Horne over breakfast. At the sheriff’s station later, Cooper finds Sheriff Truman, Deputy Andy and receptionist Lucy Moran munching donuts. Dr. Hayward reports on Laura Palmer’s autopsy, including the fact she had sexual relations with three men within a day of her death. Meanwhile, Shelly Johnson finds a bloody shirt among her husband Leo’s clothes. Elsewhere, James Hurley tells Cooper and Truman about his relationship with Laura, revealing that she used cocaine. However, James does not admit to any knowledge concerning the other half of the heart necklace.”

Catherine Martell is seen toasting Ben Horne at the Timber Falls Motel on the back of card 5.

The synopsis reads:

“Bobby Briggs and his friend Mike Nelson, in jail for their part in the Roadhouse bar fight, discuss money they owe Leo Johnson. They also taunt James Hurley, who’s in another cell, before all three are released. Donna Hayward tells her mother about her new romance with James. Meanwhile, Cooper and Truman visit the Blue Pine Lodge to question Josie Packard about Laura Palmer, who had been Josie’s English tutor. They’re interrupted by a phone call for Josie from Catherine Martell, who berates Josie for closing down the mill the previous day. Afterward, Catherine and Benjamin Horne conspire to get rid of the mill.”

They synopsis reads:

“Laura Palmer’s mother Sarah has a frightening vision of a man with long, gray hair. Ben Horne’s problems are more concrete – he’s angry with his daughter Audrey for killing his business deal with a group of Norwegians. Meanwhile, at the hospital, Deputy Hawk spots the mysterious one-armed man, while FBI Special Agent Cooper visits the Double R Diner, where he meets the Log Lady and Norma Jennings. He tries his first slice of Norma’s cherry pie, which he loves. At the Johnson home, Leo roughs up Shelly, while at the Briggs home, Garland tries to connect with his son Bobby. Across town. Dr. Jacoby weeps over his half of the heart necklace.”

The synopsis reads:

“Ben Horne’s brother Jerry pays him a visit, and they speak privately about One Eyed Jack’s. The brothers head to the brothel, where Ben wins the coin toss to initiate the new girl. Meanwhile, Deputy Hawk updates Cooper about Ronette and the one-armed man, just before Cooper gets a note reading “Jack with one eye.” Donna Hayward and James Hurley discuss their relationship, and James insists it’s not wrong for them to be together. Bobby Briggs and Mike Nelson meet Leo Johnson in the woods to pick up a supply of cocaine. Leo isn’t happy with them, nor with Shelly, as he suspects she is cheating on him.”

CARD 8 – EPISODE 1002 – ZEN, OR THE SKILL TO CATCH A KILLER

Special Agent Albert Rosenfield and his team’s arrival in Twin Peaks is seen on the back of card 8.

The synopsis reads:

“As his colleagues from the sheriff’s station look on, Cooper uses the ‘Tibetan method’ of throwing stones at a bottle to narrow down suspects whose names start with ‘J.’ He comes up with Leo Johnson and Lawrence Jacoby. Meanwhile, Bobby Briggs visits Shelly Johnson, sees her bruises, and threatens to kill her husband Leo. Meanwhile, Audrey Horne confers with Donna Hayward at the Double R Diner and reveals her crush on Cooper. That afternoon, FBI Agent Albert Rosenfield arrives to assist Cooper’s investigation. Cooper warns Sheriff Truman that Albert lacks the ‘social niceties,’ but the sheriff still bristles when Albert rudely denigrates his staff.”

CARD 9 – EPISODE 1002 – ZEN, OR THE SKILL TO CATCH A KILLER

The synopsis reads:

“Nadine Hurley congratulates her husband Ed for accidentally creating the silent drape runners she’s long desired. At the Blue Pine Lodge, Pete Martell gives Josie Packard a key to the safe containing the sawmill’s ledger, but is it the true and accurate ledger, or a back one created by Catherine? At the Palmer residence, Leland and Sarah fight over a photo of Laura, resulting in a broken frame. That night Cooper dreams of MIKE, the one-armed man, and BOB, the long-haired man. Cooper sees himself in a red-draped room with a dwarf and Laura Palmer. The latter whispers her killer’s name in Cooper’s ear.”

CARD 10 – EPISODE 1003 – REST IN PAIN

The final card in this article is number 10 and features Sheriff Truman and Lucy Moran anxiously awaiting an answer from Special Agent Cooper during breakfast at The Great Northern Hotel.

The back of card 10 introduces Maddy Furguson as she smiles at her uncle, Leland Palmer.

The synopsis reads:

“After deducing that Audrey Horne wrote the “Jack with one eye” note, Cooper has breakfast with Sheriff Truman and Lucy Moran. He tells them about his dream, but admits he’s forgotten who killed Laura Palmer. At the morgue, Albert Rosenfield tries to prevent Laura’s body from being released for the funeral. He insults everybody until Truman slugs him. Meanwhile Maddy Ferguson, who bears an uncanny resemblance to her deceased cousin Laura, gets an emotional welcome from her Uncle Leland, while Norma Jennings ponders the impending return of her husband, Hank, from prison. Major Briggs tries to have a heart-to-heart talk with his son Bobby before Laura’s funeral, but Bobby responds with anger.”
