Twin Peaks Prop – Dr. Jacoby’s Tuna Tie

With a look for every occasion, Dr. Jacoby is objectively Twin Peaks’ snappiest dresser. He debuts one of his most memorable ensembles early in the first season. The outfit is something of a tropical zoot suit, featuring high waisted pants held up by suspenders, a long wallet chain, a pineapple shirt, and a tuna fish necktie.

The tie was made by Nature Wear, who produced a variety of similar polyester ties in the 1980s with a single long fish printed from end to end.

The backside of the replica I purchased from Poshmark indicates that the tuna design was made in 1986.

We first see this outfit at the end of episode 1001, as Jacoby puts on his headphones and listens to Laura’s tape. Notice his red and blue eye glasses just below the reel-to-reel player.

The full ensemble returns in episode 2015 as the doctor guides Benjamin Horne through his Civil War fantasy. This time he is also wearing a jacket that matches the high waisted pants.

Of all of the distinct ties we see throughout the series, this is the only one that Dr. Jacoby wears more than once. We might assume that it is his favorite.
