One thing I love about the Twin Peaks fan community is there is an endless amount of creativity from people who love the world David Lynch and Mark Frost created more than 35 years ago. That’s why I’m excited for a new fan film currently in development titled, Send in the Owl. It’s a surreal, mythic dive into Buella’s story written by Wendy Davis, who originally submitted this fan fiction to the “Twin Peaks: The Fan Dossier,” a writing contest hosted by Welcome to Twin Peaks with the support of Flatiron Books and Mark Frost. Now is your opportunity to support the creation of this fan film featuring talented actors from the show.
TWIN PEAKS: THE FAN DOSSIER – “BUELLA” BY WENDY DAVIS

On June 2, 2018, Pieter Dom who runs the wonderful WelcomeToTwinPeaks.com website, published Wendy Davis’ short story “Buella” as part of a contest inspired by Mark Frost’s book, “Twin Peaks: The Final Dossier.” Davis’ story explored Buella’s backstory and her role in Mr. C’s crime syndicate, and her relation to Darya and Ray. You can read the original story on Pieter’s site HERE.

Buella, played by Kathleen Deming, only appeared in the Part 1 of Twin Peaks: The Return. Her haunting on-screen moment took place in a dilapidated shack Mr. C visits. During the scene, we are introduced to a host of characters including Otis (Redford Westwood), Ray Monroe (George Griffith), Darya (Nicole LaLiberte) and other mysterious henchmen.
In Davis’ story, she gives Buella a last name, Cady, and details how her past led to eventually overseeing illicit operations in South Dakota and interacting with Mr. C.
I asked Wendy when she first saw Twin Peaks.
“I discovered ‘Twin Peaks‘ when it first aired in the nineties,” she explained. “I was fortunate to have that quintessential high school English teacher who opened my eyes to Camus, James M. Cain, and C.S. Lewis. He fostered my interest in existentialism, the absurd, and mythology, which led to a profound love of Lynch and film noir. One Monday morning, he walked into the classroom with his aromatic Chase and Sanborn coffee and mused, ‘Twin Peaks,’ and that was it. Our entire class became devotees.”
INDIEGOGO CAMPAIGN FOR ‘SEND IN THE OWL’ – LAUNCHING APRIL 21, 2025
This fan film is being presented by Ludovico Pictures, an independent film and television production company based in the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania metropolitan region. Executive Producer Nicholas (Nick) Peetros reached out with details how fans can support this unique story via an Indigogo campaign that launched on April 21, 2025 at 12:00 Noon Eastern.
SUPPORT ‘SEND IN THE OWL’ VIA INDIGOGO
There are different levels to support this 100% independent production “made by superfans, for superfans.” There are perks based on different levels of support and some damn fine rewards to say thank you including “Special Thanks” credit in the film and on IMDb, a digital copy of the film, or a digital copy of the film plus with digital copies of the script with notes and artwork. Other perks include a chat or lunch with actors in the film such as Buella herself, Kathleen Deming.
For those “die-hard” fans, there is a perk where you can be on the set for a day and watch the magic happen.
Nick and team are planning other secret perks for early supporters (think limited-edition surprises, memorable experiences and maybe a trip into the woods).
“I was very much aware of the first two seasons of ‘Twin Peaks’ however I did not watch them at the time being that I was at College and I was focused on other things,” Nick shared after I asked when he first discovered the show.
“Fortunately, my ex-wife was a fan and suggested I watch the first two seasons before I watched the third season back in 2017. We started from the beginning followed by ‘Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me’ and then finally ‘Twin Peaks: The Return‘, which I personally believe is the greatest single season of television ever created. Sadly I was ‘late to the game,’ but doing my part to make up for lost time. [Laughs]”
Nick has assembled a stellar crew including Director Danny Donnelly whose film Last Known Location was ranked #6 on Amazon Prime US in January 2025. He also directed The Woman in the Room, a multi-award winning Stephen King adaptation.
For music, the production team turned to the amazing Italian singer, songwriter and performer, Luca DePaoli. His album, “Into The Night: a tribute to Angelo Badalamenti,” is an incredible tribute to the music of the late composer.

I first met Luca during the Fayetteville Comic Show in Fayetteville, Arkansas in February 2020. He fills every room with such joy and I’m thrilled he will be providing the soundtrack!
‘SEND IN THE OWL’ CAST
I’m equally as impressed with the cast the production team has recruited for this fan film. There are several main characters including Buella, Shannon, Cody and Hud, while Deputy Andy Brennan will be narrating.
Kathleen Deming who played Buella will be reprising her role in the film. She is joined by two of The Woodsmen from Twin Peaks: The Return, Christian Calloway and Robert Broski. Harry Goaz will be providing Deputy Brennan’s narration.
I invite you to join in support of this fan film by visiting the Indigogo page. While they may be “sending in the owl,” I’m sending good thoughts and positive energy to the entire crew and cast!
