JUNE 14 – STEVEN RHODES

Twin Peaks X Society6 Collection - Big Ed's Gas Farm

Steven’s piece today is the fifth in his series about places in Twin Peaks. He said that this artwork “came from a place of great love for Twin Peaks ever since I watched it many, many years ago.” This design gives a nod to the location from the Pilot Episode as well as  Big Ed Hurley’s truck from Season 3.

BIG ED’S GAS FARM

According to the “Twin Peaks Access Guide to the Town,”  Big Ed’s Gas Farm was once located on a beach.

“It is astonishing … the present site of Twin Peaks, was, a billion or so years ago, the western edge – the coast – of North America and where Big Ed’s Gas Farm now stands was then a coastal plain and beach…” Page 54.

The actual location of the first Gas Farm was at 8606 Preston-Fall City Rd SE in Preston, Washington. Nadine and Ed lived in an nearby home located at 31002 SE 86th St in Issaquah. The exterior of their home was only shown in the Pilot Episode, while the Big Ed’s Gas Farm exterior from the Pilot Episode was also used in Episode 1002 and Episode 2017.

Episode 1002 gave us a nighttime view of the Gas Farm. It’s not cropped like the previous daytime shots, so you can see the front of the Raging River Community Church (located at 31104 SE 86th Street) in the distance.

Off camera, someone yells “Goodnight, Ed” and the interior lights are turned off. I believe the uncredited voice is David Lynch, who also directed this episode.

EPISODE 1005

For Episode 1005, the Gas Farm has relocated to Newcomb’s Ranch located at California 2 Mile Marker LA 50.93, La Canada Flintridge, California.

As the camera follows the log truck pulling into the lot, we see a new sign (sans neon and smoke) mounted to a tree.

It’s quite similar to one that he wears at the Double R Diner in The Missing Pieces.

SEASON 3

Season 3

For Season 3, the Gas Farm moved again. This time it is found at 1130 E North Bend Way, North Bend, Washington, and the approximate coordinates are 47°29’15.6″N 121°46’15.9″W. Today, it’s home to Michael’s Auto Center, but, at the time of filming, Transmissions Plus, Inc. occupied the building.
