With the new year (and decade) on the horizon, I’m launching another recurring series – Art Peaks – on Twin Peaks Blog that celebrates artistic creations inspired by this wonderful and strange show. First up is the art on the outside of the newly released Twin Peaks – From Z to A blu-ray collection.
TWIN PEAKS – FROM Z TO A COLLECTION BOX
Beyond this set being the definitive collection containing all three broadcast seasons, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me, and the The Missing Pieces, the collection is wrapped in a spectacular image of the mysterious woods. Seeing it, I’m immediately reminded Sheriff Harry S. Truman telling Special Agent Dale Cooper about the woods in Twin Peaks from Episode 1003:
“There’s a sort of evil out there. Something very, very strange in these old woods. Call it what you want. A darkness, a presence. It takes many forms but… it’s been out there for as long as anyone can remember and we’ve [the Bookhouse Boys] always been here to fight it.”
I wish I knew who designed this box artwork as it’s spectacular.
The artwork reminds me of this scene of mist-covered woods from the Pilot Episode.
The other side panel looks like Deer Meadow Mountain (aka Olallie Point) from Twin Peaks – Fire Walk With Me and Season 3 on Showtime.
This was a favorite spot to visit near Olallie State Park located just down the street from North Bend, Washington.
I combined both side panels into a larger image (click to enlarge). I wonder if the original designer created it this way then cut the artwork to fit the box.
If you run your fingers along the side, you’ll notice that several trees are embossed. This gives the set some extra dimension and makes it a great decorative piece.
The embossed Twin Peaks logo on top of the box is also a nice touch.

ORIGINAL PHOTOGRAPH USED FOR TWIN PEAKS – FROM Z TO A BOX PACKAGING
Great news! On January 18, 2020, I located the original photograph which was used for the box artwork. I should have guessed that it was a stock photo and not something taken specifically for the box set. I found it by accident.
As I was searching for another wall mural from Season 2 at The Great Northern Hotel, I stumbled upon a similar image on Etsy.com. I immediately recognized it, so I performed an image search using the complete box set image I made for this article. Bingo! I found it.
The image was taken by Roksana (Roxana) Bashyrova, a photographer from Kyiv, Ukraine. I found the image on 500px as well as several stock photography websites.
But it’s not from the Pacific Northwest. It’s the Carpathian Mountains in Ukraine! Titled “Misty Mountain Landscape,” she used a Nikon D750 to take the photo (250mm | ƒ/6 | 1/160s | ISO 100).
She posted similar photos on her Facebook page – Roksana Bashyrova Photography.
She first posted these images on August 9, 2017.
The image appears to be reversed on the front of the box set. Notice the cluster of five trees above the word “Twin.”

While I still don’t know who designed the actual box, it’s wonderful to solve part of the mystery.
