One of the treats for me from Twin Peaks Season 3 was seeing Nadine Hurley’s shop, Run Silent, Run Drapes. This was such a payoff from Season 1 when she tried to create “completely silent” drape runners using “COTTON BALLS!” The location used for her shop is found in the heart of North Bend, Washington and had a long history dating back to the early 20th century.
Located at 112 W North Bend Way in North Bend, Washington, the building is surrounded by several film locations from Twin Peaks. You’ll find the Double R Diner and Tremond Intersection across the street. Down the road is where Mike Nelson berates Steven about a terrible resume from Twin Peaks Part 5 on Showtime.
HISTORY OF THE BUILDING
Before Nadine moved in, the building was home to Glazier’s Dry Goods Co., one of North Bend’s mercantile businesses. In August 2019, it became home to Volition Brewing Co. (more on them in a moment) who described the building’s history on their website:
“Our building was the original site of North Bend’s mercantile business “Glazier’s Dry Goods Co.” owned and operated by Ward Glazier, who first arrived in North Bend in 1908.
Ward purchased the building in the early 1920s and it underwent a major expansion in early 1940s when North Bend Way was widened. Ward’s son, Watt, removed the front portion of the original structure and expanded the reinforced concrete structure to its current configuration. After another remodel in the 1950s, Watt’s son, William, went on to run the family business as a clothing, draperies and antique store from the 1970s through the mid-1990s.
In 2019, the Glazier family has once again breathed new life into this site in conjunction with Volition Brewing Co. as North Bend’s very own craft brewery and taphouse.”
PART 10
Part 10 is the first the the exterior of Run Silent, Run Drapes appears in the series. Nadine has installed Dr. Amp’s “golden shovel” in her front window which is revealed by a “completely silent” drape.
Here is a similar look from Google Maps circa November 2015.
I took several nighttime shots of the building on September 15, 2019.
During my visit on October 13, 2019, it appears Nadine’s store logo is still on the outside of the building. It’s covered with a piece of painted wood.
PART 11
The shop makes a small cameo in Twin Peaks Part 11 as seen outside the window of the Double R Diner.
PART 13
The building exterior is seen again in Part 13. This time it is slightly cropped compared to the appearance in Part 10.
A daytime shot of the building exterior from September 14, 2019.
Here is another look at the building from Bing Maps circa July 2014.
A different establishing shot is seen later in Part 13. This time, it’s from the opposite side of the bushes, which also gives a look at the alley beside the shop. I took a comparison photo on September 15, 2019.
Dr. Amp is seen driving by Nadine’s shop in Part 13. After spotting his golden shovel, he stops his truck and backs up.
We first got a look at Dr. Amp’s 1984 Toyota Truck in Part 1 when he received his shipment of shovels. I wonder if these scenes were filmed around the same day.
Dr. Amp parks his truck and approaches the front door. Notice the “112” on the door which is the actual address of the building. Nadine is clearly ecstatic to see him.
Here’s the front door of Volition Brewing Co. on September 15. Notice how the “112” is backward compared to the broadcast scene.
Nadine shows her tribute to Dr. Amp which he loves. She is willing to be his loyal foot (or shovel) soldier.
Here’s another look at the window display from Google Maps.
A look at the location at night in 2019. The display window has been replaced with seating for the brewery.
An opposite look at the front of Run Silent, Run Drapes. Dr. Amp recalls the last time he saw Nadine. During a storm seven years ago, he spotted Nadine on her hands and knees looking for a potato at a grocery store. I’m guessing it was at Keri’s Handi-Mart where Sarah Palmer shops in Part 12.
We get one last look at Run Silent, Run Drapes when Big Ed Hurley parks his truck in the parking lot outside the Double R Diner. By this time, it appears the store front is no longer decorated as Nadine’s shop.
VOLITION BREWING CO.
LivingSnqoualmie.com published an article on August 13, 2018 that discussed Volition Brewing Co. turning the building into a taproom.
“Volition is currently working with the King County Landmarks and Historical Society to maintain the building’s historic facade, but the interior and infrastructure will be all new and modern, along with being kid and dog-friendly.
The remodeling work will start with the main building, but Volition also plans to upgrade the surrounding buildings, including the rundown, rear detached garage which will become what Volition business partners have dubbed ‘The Funk House,’ where barrel aging and wood fermenting will occur. It is this building where the brewery plans to add a year-round covered and heated roof top bar with sprawling views of Mt. Si.”
Volition Brewing Co. officially opened its doors in mid-August 2019. Renovations took about one year as the crew had to completely gut the entire building and replace with a new ceiling, floors, and utilities.
During my visits in September and October 2019, I visited this location many time. I love the Han Solo in Carbonite mounted on the far way. It’s a great spot to watch Seattle Seahawks games too. The images above shows the inside of the tap room, including the window display where Nadine’s tribute to Dr. Amp was displayed.
Luckily, owner Lucas Haines kept pieces of the previous building as he explained in an article on LivingSnoqualmie.com:
“One of the coolest things – we were able to salvage some of the 80-year old timbers from the floor and prominently place them in the tap room. The bar top, chair rail, and window sill are all made from reclaimed wood.”
Their beer selections change with each season. I sampled different beers in September and October. All were fantastic!
Whether you prefer dark (like me) or something light and fruity, they have plenty of options.
I can’t say enough about them. I love this place and I’m so glad they opened across from Twede’s Cafe. Fingers crossed they introduce some Twin Peaks-themed beers.
They also offer apparel and drinkware which mixes the Volition Brewing Co. logo along with Mount Si in their backyard.

BEHIND THE SCENES
Thanks to The Mauve Zone and Twin Peaks Archive, we have a look at how this store front was created. With the opening of Volition Brewing Co. now open, the building front will look different than how it appeared in the series. You should be following both on Twitter – @TheMauveZone and @TwinPeaksArchve.
Hello! we moved to Seattle area the summer of 2019….Twin Peaks virgins (we were both in grad school and did not own TVs). We had beers at Volition long before I ever knew the TP connection. But this winter we went down the rabbit hole and watched FWWM and all three seasons. Let just say we are big fans, and have visited many landmarks/locations much to our enjoyment (esp the pie at Twedes and the beer at Volition). I went to see where Nadines shop was filmed…never guessed we had already been there! Your blog is incredible, I love your commitment to all things TP. We are planning a trip to Poulsbo soon to hopefully see the sights there. Thank you for sharing your wealth of information. I appreciate it!
