I recently explored the filming location for the exterior of Lucky 7 Insurance building in Twin Peaks on Showtime. This time, I step inside the lobby of this building to examine where several scenes took place.
The Lucky 7 Insurance building is supposed to be located at 7600 Main Street, Las Vegas, Nevada. In reality, the building is located at 801 N. Brand Boulevard in Glendale, California. Completed in 1986, the modern office building is home to New York Life, Americas United Bank, and Search Agency.
The first time we see the lobby is in Part 5 shortly after Janey-E Jones dropped off Dougie Jones sporting his iconic lime green suit jacket. Dougie stumbles into the lobby where he is spotted by Phil Bisby carrying beverages from Szymon’s Famous Coffees.
Here we can see glass front doors and the lobby desk where the action takes place.
In Part 5, Phil and Dougie proceed to the elevators which take them to their offices. Those scenes were shot in a completely different location (more on that later). The elevators are seen again in Parts 7 and 11 when Janey-E Jones and Bushnell Mullins escort Dougie respectively. In the background of both scenes is a giant blue art cylinder with artwork painted on the outside.
Similar to the stainless steel sculpture that was covered outside the building, the blue cylinder covers the sculpture seen above. I’ve been unable to identify the artist at this point. I’m wondering if it was covered for reasons similar to the sculpture that was covered outside the building (usage rights or recognizable sculpture).
Both Parts 7 and 11 show a closer look at the corner of the elevator area.
You can see the same corner area on the left side of the image above.
In Part 7, Janey-E and Dougie Jones walk toward the glass doors. We get another look at the covered stainless steel sculpture.
The same glass doors are seen in this location image above.
As Bushnell Mullins escorts Dougie Jones through the lobby in Part 11, Dougie is distracted by Mike, the One-Armed Man who appears inside Szymon’s Famous Coffees. Bushnell chases after Dougie as he stumbles toward the cafe’s entrance.
A similar view as seen from the actual lobby. The restaurant is named Mediterranean Grill. More on that in a moment.
One thing to note is that it appears the same carpet found inside the actual building was also used in the show. The crew added brightly colored seating which complemented the bright colors found in the Lucky 7 Insurance offices.
Anthony Sinclair watches Dougie Jones attempt to enter the building in Part 13.
This panoramic image shows the approximate location of the column where Anthony was standing.
Here’s a comparison of the scene with Dougie Jones attempting to enter the glass doors and a similar view from the actual location.
After Anthony and Dougie finally meet in the lobby, they proceed to Szymon’s Famous Coffees. The actual restaurant / cafe is the Mediterranean Grill. Look carefully and you can see tiny screws or nails at the top of the Szymon’s sign that was placed over the Grill’s sign.
Leslie the waitress from Szymon’s Famous Coffees delivers two cups o’ joe to Dougie and Anthony.
After taking a sip of coffee, Dougie spots pie inside Szymon’s and takes off to examine closer.
Here’s a better look inside Szmon’s. The overall colors appears to be the same as what’s found at the Mediterranean Grill. I’m wondering if the pendant lights were changed to create an overall mid-century vibe.
It also appears the door decal may have been removed for the episode.
As Dougie returns to his seat, we can see those awesome colorful chairs that must have been added to the set. Look carefully and you can spot the corner of a television that is mounted on a nearby wall.
After Anthony runs off to the bathroom, he returns to where Dougie is seated. I’m guessing the bathroom scene was also shot at this location but I’ve not located photo reference.
The bottom image shows the opposite side of the wall where the television is mounted. Notice the giant wall tiles that appear to match where Anthony is standing.
Keep watching for a story about the film location for the Lucky 7 Insurance offices. It’s a downtown Los Angeles location which has been previously covered on Twin Peaks Blog.
