Twin Peaks Film Location – Wagon-Wheel Do-Nuts

Wagon-Wheel Do-Nuts location in Monrovia, California

Wagon-Wheel Do-Nuts, a local doughnut shop in Twin Peaks, is described in the first draft of Episode 1001 (see this article on WelcomeToTwinPeaks.com for more on this location). The location was briefly seen in a deleted scene from season one where Deputy Andy Brennan and Lucy Moran pick up an order of doughnuts. I first visited the real location in 2010 which was the former Monrovia Bakery in Monrovia, California.

Monrovia Bakery was once located at 506 S. Myrtle Avenue in Monrovia, California. The approximate coordinates are 34°08’48.1″N 118°00’03.3″W.

While the shop was family owned and operated since 1970, the location closed a few years ago. It was used as a film location for several television shows including Mad Men.

I visited the location in July 2010 after spending a morning at the Sierra Madre Pioneer Cemetery, which served as the film location for Laura Palmer’s funeral.

The bakery is located just down the street from the exterior of Donna Hayward’s house from Seasons 1 and 2, and Twin Peaks General Store from Episode 1001.

I returned to Monrovia on October 12, 2020 to see the updated Sharetea location. Unfortunately, the shop was closed at the time but I took this image of the exterior.

Interestingly, they kept the Monrovia Bakery sign above the main entrance.

When I returned to the shop in October 2020, the interior looked completely different.

The wood paneling was completely removed and the walls were decorated with murals of images from classic television shows and films. I’m so glad I captured what I did more than 10 years ago during my first visit.

Episode 2021

While the donut shop was never seen during the regular series run, you can catch a glimpse of the Wagon Wheel street sign in Episode 2021.

Look carefully next to Donna Hayward when she is backstage during the Miss Twin Peaks Contest – the sign is propped against the wall.

A better look at that sign can be seen in a behind-the-scenes video from C.O.O.P. (Citizens Opposing the Offing of Peaks) who visited the Twin Peaks set in 1991.

Of course, I have to give credit to Charles from the former InTwinPeaks.com website who helped me locate the shop in 2010. Below is the webpage about the location originally found on that now closed site (click on the image to enlarge).
