Setting the Stage – Twin Peaks Sheriff’s Department Exterior in Season 2

In a previous Setting the Stage article, I examined the Twin Peaks Sheriff’s Department’s exterior as seen in Season 1 of Twin Peaks. This time, I’m taking a closer look at how the building exterior was shown in Season 2.

Similar to Season 1, all of the exterior scenes appear to come from footage shot at 7001 396th Dr SE in Snoqualmie, Washington. Once a Weyerhaeuser’s Snoqualmie mill office, the building now houses Dirtfish Rally School. Season 2 also recycles several establishing shots used in Season 1.

The first establishing shot of Season 2 comes from Episode 2001. It is shown just before Agent Albert Rosenfield examines Agent Cooper inside the conference room.

Another look of the Sherrif’s Department is seen in this episode before Agent Cooper directs Deputy Andy Brennan and Lucy Moran to review issues of “Fleshworld” magazine. This appears to be a non-cropped image that was first seen in the Pilot Episode.

Before Agent Cooper “lays the whole thing out,” a unique establishing shot is seen. This image gives a better look at the license plate on Sheriff Truman’s Ford Bronco – Washington State AMT 83206.

A slightly off center shot of the Sheriff’s Department is seen in Episode 2002. This establishing shot is just before Lucy Moran battles a fly. It’s a similar image first seen in Episode 1004, except that original image isn’t off kilter.

Episode 2003
Episode 2003

The back of Sheriff Truman’s Ford Bronco is seen in Episode 2003 just before Albert Rosenfield’s famous “I love you Sheriff Truman” speech. While this is the first time this shot was seen in the series, it’s the last image from a longer sequence later shown in Episode 2005 (as seen below).

In Episode 2005, Deputy Hawk returns from a trip to Pearl Lake. He is shown pulling up to the Sheriff’s Department in the Ford Bronco.  As mentioned, the last shot (sans red taillight) was used in Episode 2003.

It’s raining in Episode 2006 when the Sheriff’s Department is shown prior to the interrogation of Mike, the one-armed man. The image appears to be recycled from Episode 1006.

A Sheriff’s Deputy car passes by the Ford Bronco and a 1989 Buick Electra pulls up in Episode 2007. This scene cuts to Agent Cooper reading Laura Palmer’s secret (and shredded) diary in the conference room. It’s from this final shot where I  assume the Buick is Cooper’s car since the cuts to him.

Episode 2008

Before Pete Martell visits Sheriff Truman and later Benjamin Horne in Episode 2008, a recycled shot from Episode 2001 is shown. This is the non-cropped image of the building first seen in the Pilot Episode.

Episode 2009
Episode 2009

Episode 2009 has a slightly cropped shot from an image first seen in Episode 1001. This shot takes place prior to Mr. Zipper (played by Clive Rosengren) listens in on Deputy Andy and Lucy’s conversation.

Prior to Catherine Martell speaking with Sheriff Truman, a Sheriff’s Deputy car is seen passing by in Episode 2010. The scene appears to be the same one used in Episode 1006.

Episode 2011

Episode 2011 contains a shot seen in both Episodes 2001 and 2008. The exterior is shown before Betty Briggs is questioned by Cooper and Truman.

Cooper’s 1989 Buick Electra and the Sheriff’s Department’s Ford Bronco are shown again in Episode 2012. This image is similar to one from Episode 2007 when the Buick is shown pulling up to the Department.

A second image is shown in Episode 2012 prior to Dick Tremayne’s arrival. This is similar to the scene from Episode 1007 when Truman and Cooper return to the station.

Prior to Truman asking Cooper about chess in Episode 2014, a recycled shot of a Deputy’s car driving by the department is seen. This was originally used in Episodes 1006 and 2010.

Episode 2014 also contains a recycled and slightly longer segment that was first used in Episode 1006. It takes place before Dr. Hayward chides Deputy Andy and Dick Tremayne. It’s an interesting shot as it appears an unidentified Sheriff’s Deputy is shown walking inside the building.

Agent Rosenfield debriefs Cooper in the conference room in Episode 2015. Before that scene, there is a recycled establishing shot first used in Episode 2009.

Another recycled shot is seen in Episode 2017 before Cooper is shown reviewing INTERPOL files. The same shot is used in Episode 2020 before Agent Cooper speaks with Shelly Johnson, Audrey Horne and Donna Hayward.

Episode 2022
Episode 2022

The final shot of the Twin Peaks Sheriff’s Department’s exterior in Season 2 is found at the beginning of Episode 2022. It appears similar to shots seen in Episode 1006, 2010 and 2014. The overall scene appears darker with more noticeable interior lighting.

Keep watch for the third part in this Setting the Stage series when I visit the Sheriff’s Department 25 years later for Season 3.
