Toward the end of Twin Peaks Part 5 on Showtime, there is a short establishing shot of Buenos Aires, Argentina. As it turns out, this scene has a minor connection to the exterior establishing shot of Diane Evans’ apartment.
WHERE IS THE FLYING OVER BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA IN TWIN PEAKS LOCATED?
Like Diane’s apartment footage in Twin Peaks Part 7, this establishing shot is stock footage. I found the footage on July 8, 2017 after searching on Getty Images for a match.
With such a short amount of footage, I assumed the production team didn’t send a crew to Argentina. It would be more cost effective to use the stock footage ($575 versus way more money to send a crew).
CAVORT captured this royalty free footage which was described as “Aerial view of Obelisk de Buenos Aires Argentina.”
According to World History Commons, the Obelisk was built in 1936 to commemorate the anniversary of the founding of the city. It stands 67.5 meters tall, made of concrete and stone. The nation of Argentina celebrates its independence day on July 9th. This monument is located in the historic heart of town, at the intersection of July 9th Avenue and Corrientes Avenue. It stands only six blocks from the main plaza of the city, the Plaza de Mayo, where the colonial government had functioned.
