Twin Peaks Film Location – Jade Gives Dougie a Ride

Dougie Jones and Jade in a Jeep

Lately, I’ve been spending some time in the California desert while detailing the film locations around Rancho Rosa Estates in Twin Peaks Season 3 on Showtime. I’ve discussed both the exterior and interior of the “Las Vegas” house Dougie Jones and Jade use for a delightful afternoon rendezvous. Now I turn my focus on another driving scene when Jade offers to give Dougie a second ride, this time to the . Editor Duwayne Dunham created a great puzzle with these scenes so they are some of my favorite things to decode.

WHEN WAS THE JADE GIVES DOUGIE A RIDE SCENE SHOT?

Behind the Curtain - Part 3
Behind the Curtain – Part 3

Thanks to the amazing Behind the Curtain documentary footage on the Twin Peaks – From Z to A Collection we learn this scene was shot on January 14, 2016. It’s the final day of shooting in Palmdale neighborhood.

WHERE IS THE JADE GIVES DOUGIE A RIDE SCENE LOCATED?

Google Map – Part 1

This is the first of four maps that I will reference to place the approximate location for each scene. Dunham’s superior editing skills makes the scene flow without interruption. In fact, you may not even catch the location jumps throughout the episode.

In total, there are more than 23 locations used which means that extra footage from each of these shoots probably exists (something I hope to see on the “More, More, More Missing Pieces” release 25 years from now).

To begin this journey, let’s return to Dougie’s love shack.

SCENES 1 AND 2

The scene begins with Jade pulling out of the driveway located at 37890 Lopez Lane.

Bing Maps offers a better look at Lopez Lane compared to Google Maps. The images captures are from January 26, 2015, about a year before the Twin Peaks crew would shoot in this location.

The camera follows Jade and Dougie as they continue down the street. Hitman Gene passes by the yellow Jeep but doesn’t recognize Dougie seated in the front. I’ll discuss Gene’s visits in Parts 3 and 5 in a different article.

For Scene 3, we jump back on Lopez Lane to a spot north of Dougie’s house. The approximate coordinates are 34°34’11.3″N 118°00’30.7″W.

Jade continues driving south on Lopez Lane, passing by the corner home that is across the street diagonally from Dougie’s home away from home. The coordinates are 34°34’12.1″N 118°00’30.7″W.

SCENE 5

The camera cuts to the hood of the Jeep looking at Jade driving Dougie down the street. I love this shot as you can see Dougie’s car parked in the driveway to the left of his face.

You can see the mountains in the distance behind Jade’s head. There is also a glimpse of the street sign for Lopez Lane and Little Rock Lane.

SCENE 6 – SYCAMORE STREET

Part 3

Speaking of street signs, Dougie glances up to see a sign for Sycamore Street, a nice nod to the Sycamore trees of Glastonbury Grove.

The street corner they pass is the corner of Lopez Lane and Atmore Street. The coordinates for this spot are 34°34’15.6″N 118°00’30.6″W.

The crew used the same pole but the signs were replaced with Sycamore Street and Little Rock Lane. In Palmdale, there is a Little Sycamore Street and a Sycamore Lane, but no Sycamore Street.

Bing Maps – January 26, 2015

The Little Rock Lane sign appears to be the one near Dougie’s and the 119 house. It’s also the same street where Gene calls Lorraine.

But here’s something even more crazy about the street corner sign.

The same house is behind the Sycamore Street sign! You can see more details about the sign in this article on Twin Peaks Blog. What a cool connection!

The next house they pass has a brightly colored front door. It must have been painted after the image capture for Bing Maps. It’s found at 34°34’14.7″N 118°00’30.8″W.

This house makes a cameo appearance later in Part 6. Janey-E confronts Dougie with a photo of Jade and him standing outside this home.

The Bing Maps image doesn’t show the fountain which I’m assuming was added sometime after January 2015. The window and main entrance, however, are the same as the photo.

After Jade passes the Scene 10 house, we jump west of Lopez Lane to Big Rock Drive. The Jeep will again travel north on this street with several interspersed scenes from Lopez Lane.

SCENE 13 – SPEED BUMP SIGN

Part 3

Suddenly, we’re back on Lopez Lane as a “Speed Bump Ahead” sign comes into view.

Gene Drives Away
Part 5

We see the actual speed bump, albeit from the opposite direction, in Part 5 as Gene’s car is scene driving away from Dougie’s love nest. I can’t find a speed bump on Google Maps or Bing Maps, so I’m wondering if it was added specifically for the shoot.

The approximate location of the sign is found at these coordinates – 34°34’10.3″N 118°00’30.6″W.

Another cut to a view of Dougie and Jade from the hood of the Jeep. My gut says that the crew shot this scene a few different ways, from the side, hood and back. Then Dwayne could select from the best shots to edit the scene. This front view is around 34°34’11.8″N 118°00’20.2″W.

Jade hits that speed bump causing Dougie to drop his Great Northern Hotel key. The scene on Big Rock Drive is around 34°34’11.7″N 118°00’20.3″W.

SCENE 17

Part 3

Another location jump and we’re back on Lopez Lane, this time headed south. The scene take place around 34°34’10.4″N 118°00’30.7″W. This particular scene is another reason why I think the crew shot multiple takes of the same scene in different spots throughout this neighborhood.

If you look carefully at Dougie’s rearview mirror, you’ll see a crew member standing in the back seat.

SCENE 18

Still bent over in the Jeep, we cut back to Big Rock Lane. Notice the “peaked” house in the distance. It’s the same one seen in the Google Maps image above, which is around 34°34’12.9″N 118°00’20.3″W.

For Map 3, we’ve moved to yet another location, this time to the east of Lopez Lane. The sniper Jake is sitting in his vehicle on Ardmore Court, waiting for Jade and Dougie to drive by. There will be a separate article for his scene, but for now, the coordinates where his car is parked are 34°34’12.8″N 118°00’39.2″W.

Our final location takes us to the spot where the Rancho Rosa Estates sign is found. It’s located at one of the entrances to the community at the corner of Woodbank Way and Campbell Street. The coordinates for this location are 34°34′ 18 N 118°00′ 41.8′ W.

On the way out of the community, Jade and Dougie pass the community sign. The sign was digitally added on a giant white board that was constructed for the shoot.

I close this article with a shot of the extremely talented crew who brought Season 3 to life. Notice how the camera is mounted on high sticks to capture Jade’s Jeep passing by. I’m so grateful for their efforts as it makes writing articles for this Blog even more enjoyable.

  1. Fantastic work as usual Steven !
On second viewing I just assumed the person pushing the shopping trolley near the Rancho Rosa sign was the “Mr. Jackpots” lady ?
I just instantly thought that’s who it was intended to be ?
Never found any evidence of this though.
