Throughout 2024, several retailers released new officially licensed Twin Peaks products. From H&M to GAP Canada to Jun Takahashi’s Undercover, it was a delight seeing these new items created several years after the third season concluded. Now, the Paramount Shop, home to official products from David Lynch and Mark Frost’s wonderful and strange show, has introduced two new jewelry pieces inspired by the Owl Cave symbol.
OWL CAVE SYMBOL IN TWIN PEAKS
The Owl Cave symbol first appeared in Twin Peaks episode 2.018 when Deputy Andy Brennan struck a stone wall with a pick axe after being startled by a flying owl. Pink pages of this episode’s script were revised by Robert Engels and Harley Peyton on January 21, 1991. None of the dialogue below appears in the broadcasted episode.
ANDY
What was that?
COOPER
(he stands, preoccupied)
An owl.
ANDY
I’m sorry. I destroyed a national monument.
TRUMAN
Forget it, Andy. It’s just a rock. The important thing –
(notices Cooper’s expression) Coop?
The diamond opening reveals a stone dowel with a stylized owl symbol on the end.
ANDY
What have I done?
COOPER
(Seeing the dowel)
Fellas, coincidence and fate figure largely in our lives.
Windom Earle would late discover Owl Cave and the stone dowel with the symbol. He would invert the dowel to reveal a map.
This symbol would appear again in David Lynch’s Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me (albeit with a tiny tail) and throughout the show’s third season.
The website for the Twin Peaks 30th Anniversary event once placed at Graceland had the Owl Cave symbol graphic to which I inverted like Earle.
NECKLACE AND SIGNET RING OF OWL CAVE SYMBOL IN TWIN PEAKS
In the final days of 2024, the Paramount Shop released two new items based on the Owl Cave Symbol with the first being a necklace. This item is packages in a black box with the Twin Peaks Logo and “TM & (C) 2024 Twin Peaks” printed on the lid.
The online shop description states the following about this item:
Embrace the mystery and intrigue of Twin Peaks with the Owl Cave Symbol Necklace, a striking accessory inspired by one of the most iconic elements of the show. Featuring the enigmatic Oel [sic] Cave symbol, this necklace is a tribute to the hidden forces and supernatural secrets that define the town of Twin Peaks, particularly the eerie and mysterious Owl Cave. Whether you’re a longtime fan of Twin Peaks or just drawn to its enigmatic symbols, this pendant is a stylish way to carry a piece of its mystique with you. It serves as a perfect reminder of the show’s dark beauty and its blend of the everyday with the uncanny.
The necklace is made from 100% recycled 925 sterling silver and the pendant height is 0.5″. The pendant is attached to an adjustable anchor chain measuring 17.7″ to 19.7″(450mm-500mm). It’s hypoallergenic, planet-friendly and skin-friendly (nickel-free) and is highly tarnish-resistant. Retail is $69.95
The second item is a Twin Peaks Owl Cave Signet Ring which is described on the website as follows:
Unlock the mystery of Twin Peaks with the Owl Cave Signet Ring, a bold tribute to the enigmatic symbols and secrets of the iconic show. This striking ring features the powerful owl symbol, deeply tied to the mysteries of the show, particularly the eerie Owl Cave and its connection to the supernatural forces at play in the town of Twin Peaks.
The Paramount Shop says this ring is perfect for “those who love to dive into the eerie, cryptic elements of storytelling, this ring is a perfect match.” It’s made from 100% recycled 925 sterling silver and the ring face has a diameter of 0.43″. Like the necklace, it’s hypoallergenic, planet-friendly, skin-friendly (nickel-free) and is highly tarnish-resistant. Retail is $59.95.
This new ring, however, is not a screen accurate match like one previously manufactured by Rocklove Jewelry or more recently by Jun Takahashi’s Undercover. I’m assuming this version was introduced as the license for RockLove is ending and they needed a replacement ring.
I’m hopeful that these new items are only the beginning of even more newness in 2025 for the 35th Anniversary of Twin Peaks.
