Twin Peaks – Fire Walk With Me Postcard from Cannes Film Festival

Front and back of Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me postcard

David Lynch introduced the world to his masterpiece feature film, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me, on May 16 1992 at the Cannes Film Festival. Thanks to fellow, long-time Twin Peaks fan Dugpa, we took a deep dive on Twin Peaks Blog into the film premiere and infamous press conference. Since this is my favorite Lynch film (followed by The Straight Story, which may be tied for first), I was thrilled to find a postcard created for this film festival.

TWIN PEAKS: FIRE WALK WITH ME POSTCARD FROM 1992 CANNES FILM FESTIVAL

The front of the postcard resembles a smaller version of the international film poster with images of Laura Palmer (Sheryl Lee) and Special Agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan). The card identifies the film as a 1992 official selection for Cannes, and offers a handful of acting and production credits.

The image of Laura Palmer sitting on the bed is from the Red Diamond City Motel scene with Teresa Banks and Ronette Pulaski.

Cooper’s image is from the publicity shot of him looking down at Laura Palmer seated in the Red Room.

There is also a logo for  AMLF: Mediterranean Film Rental Agency. The French production and distribution company is a subsidiary of Pathé, which was created in 1921 under the name Pathé Consortium Cinéma. From 1972 to 1998, the company was renamed to AMLF before taking its current name – Pathé Distribution – in 1999. The company distributed the film in France, which rolled into French theatres on July 3, 1992.

Back of Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me postcard

The back of the postcard contains the film’s title along with a short paragraph in French:

“Des indices of des événements étranges entourent l’enquête sur le meurtre brutal de Teresa Banks. Un an phis tard, dans la vine apparemment tranquille de Twin Peaks, nous assistons aux Sept derniers jours pleins de mystere et d’angoisse de la vie de la très belle Laura Palmer”

Using Google Translate, the paragraph said:

“Strange clues and events surround the investigation into the brutal murder of Teresa Banks. A year later, in the seemingly quiet town of Twin Peaks, we witness the last seven days full of mystery and anguish in the life of the very beautiful Laura Palmer.”

The card is signed by David Lynch, but his signature is pre-printed (not actually signed).

The card also contains the address for AMLF – 10 Rue Lincoln – 75008 Paris. The RCS number – B 058810631 – refers to Registre de Commerce et des Sociétés which is registration number for the company to do business in France. The “B” stands for commercial companies.

Here is how the exterior of the building looked in 2023, which was once home to AMLF.

There are not many items from the 1992 Cannes Film Festival featuring Lynch’s 1992 film which makes finding this postcard an extra treat.
