Twin Peaks X Society6 – Logs, Logs, Logs!

When I think of character’s representative of Twin Peaks, I immediately think of Margaret Lanterman, also known as The Log Lady. We’re first introduced to her during a meeting at the Twin Peaks Town Hall in the Pilot Episode. Mysterious, quirky and wise, the late Catherine Coulson did a phenomenal job bringing her to life. It’s no wonder that her character and the log she carries have become fan favorites. So, I was delighted to see The Log featured in new artwork today for the 30th Anniversary of Twin Peaks collaboration with Society6.

The Twin Peaks X Society6 collection is no longer available as of 2024. This article is an archive of the artwork featured in this collection released in 2020 for the 30th anniversary of David Lynch and Mark Frost’s wonderful and strange series.

JUNE 25, 2020 – MARGOTMUSHROOMS

Every day in June 2020, Showtime and Society6 are releasing new Twin Peaks-inspired artwork by artists from around the world. A new design is released each day.

Canadian-based artist MargotMushrooms created an all-over pattern featuring Margaret’s Log.

She first added this design to her Redbubble and Society6 stores on May 9, 2017 (which is crazy to think that was before Season 3 aired on Showtime).

Not surprisingly, the simple log design became a hit. She also created tiny pins based on the design and featured them on her Instagram account.

THE LOG

While Margaret doesn’t “introduce the log,” the piece of wood was popular enough to have its own StarPics card in 1991.

The back of the card shares more details about this silent but important character:

The Log is from a Ponderosa Pine, which is indigenous to the Northwest. It is a highly prized tree. The Log is from a lateral branch, and The Log itself is 8-9 years old. Ponderosa Pines are slow-growing trees and take 350-500 years to reach maturity. They are drought resistant.

The Log was give to Margaret by her former woodsman husband as a wedding gift. Margaret’s Log’s strengths are its special spirit/life force, and, of course, its great insight. Its greatest weaknesses are fire and bark beetles.

THE PRODUCTS

MargotMushrooms’ all-over log pattern appeared on several items. I love the coffee mug (of course) and I think the design works well on both the throw pillow and the tote bag.

You can also find it available as a laptop sleeve and even on a clock (I’ll always have time for The Log!).
