I turned the spotlight on the costumes worn by Audrey Horne (played by Sherilyn Fenn) throughout Twin Peaks. Today’s 30th Anniversary artwork for Society6’s month-long celebration of my favorite show features Audrey’s look from Episode 1004. It was created by Denmark-based artist Mathilde Sahlholdt, proving once again that David Lynch and Mark Frost’s masterpiece is loved around the world.
The Twin Peaks X Society6 collection is no longer available as of 2024. This article is an archive of the artwork featured in this collection released in 2020 for the 30th anniversary of David Lynch and Mark Frost’s wonderful and strange series.
JUNE 23, 2020 – MATHILDE SAHLHOLDT
In her design, Mathilde Sahlholdt captures Audrey Horne just as she lights a cigarette while entering the girl’s room at Twin Peaks High School in Episode 1004.
She first posted this artwork on her Instagram account on March 28, 2018.
Mathilde included two additional black-and-white sketches of Audrey in that post.
AUDREY’S CIGARETTES
The drawing is inspired by this exact moment when Audrey enters the bathroom. Pay attention to her red pack of cigarettes.
Donna Hayward uses a similar pack in Episode 2001 when she speaks with Maddy Ferguson at the Double R Diner.
From what I can tell, the brand is “Metropolitan King Size,” yet I haven’t found a match to an actual brand of cigarettes.
If it isn’t a real brand, the cigarette package prop could have made by The Earl Hays Press. This prop house is known for making another fake brand often seen in shows, including Twin Peaks – Morley cigarettes. I’ll discuss their work and influence in another article.
Fellow Twin Peaks Blog author and Bookhouse Boy Jason Mattson discussed recreating the Metropolitan cigarettes in this article.
THE PRODUCTS
The Audrey Horne design appears on several items available via Society6. I think it works particularly well on the Tote Bag.
I also really like the Travel Mug as I think the design works well on the product shape.
Other items include phone cases, apparel, a notebook and stationary cards.
THE ARTIST
Mathilde Sahlholdt is an artist from Copenhagen, Denmark. You can follow her work on Instagram (@mathildesahlholdt) or Twitter and Flickr.
She has other artwork available on her Society6 page too.
I was particularly surprised to see two face masks on her RedBubble shop based her David Lynch-inspired artwork of Mulholland Drive and Blue Velvet.
30-DAY COUNTDOWN
Mathilde joins an all-star line up of artists this month to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of a wonderful and strange show.
