Throughout Twin Peaks, I am continually impressed with how Special Agent Dale Cooper uses intuition, deduction and sometimes magic to figure things out. In Episode 1004, he offers insight into how he looks at the world with a quote written by Robert Engles.
The scene in question takes place at the Twin Peaks Sheriff’s Department. Deputy Hawk delivers a fax (!!) of Special Agent Albert Rosenfield’s reconstructed poker chip from One Eyed Jacks.
Deputy Andy Brennan interrupts the conversation after realizing he found Jacques Renault’s bird Waldo.
Deputy Brennan shares the news with Sheriff Truman, Deputy Hawk and Agent Cooper.
That’s when Cooper shares his wisdom.
“Gentlemen, when two separate events occur simultaneously pertaining to the same object of inquiry, we must always pay strict attention.”
Perfect. Just perfect. How many times has that happened to you? Things that seem like coincidence may actually be connected. Love it, Robert.
EPISODE 1004 SCRIPT
The first draft of Robert Engles script for Episode 1004 was written on September 26, 1989.
There were three revisions about a mont later – October 23 (Blue pages); October 27 (Pink pages) and October 31 (Yellow pages).
In the script, the action is slightly different than the broadcast scene (Andy drops a file drawer, Hawk has some different lines). But Cooper’s quote about paying strict attention is exactly the same as broadcasted.
