Twin Peaks Film Location – Bobby Tests Drugs

Twin Peaks Film Location - Midnight / Bobby Tests Drugs

I can’t seem to stay out of the woods as my exploration of the film scenes from Twin Peaks continues. This time, I’m looking at a location that is found in both Twin Peaks – Fire Walk With Me and The Missing Pieces. For the longest time, we only saw the nighttime location when Bobby Briggs and Laura Palmer arrive in the woods to make a big score. Thanks to the release of those missing or extended scenes in 2014, we can confirm it’s the same location where Bobby tests his drugs.

LOCATION OF THE SCENE

Olallie State Park outside North Bend, Washington once again serves as the setting for these scenes. Located at 51350 S.E. Homestead Valley Road, the park is open from early morning until dusk. You’ll need a Discover Pass to explore this wonderland of Twin Peaks film locations.

This spot is pretty easy to find as it’s near the entrance to Weeks Falls Trail. The exact coordinates are 47°26’10.6″N 121°39’12.6″W. You have to pass by this location to visit the rest of Weeks Falls trail so you are guaranteed not to miss it.

TWIN PEAKS – FIRE WALK WITH ME

Jacques Renault tells Bobby to meet a guy at “midnight, near the sound of sawing wood” where he will make a “big score.” The scene opens with a car driving down a path with its headlights on.

This scene is extremely short and cuts to Bobby and Laura making their way through the woods.

Basically, the crew set up the camera at night and drove Bobby’s car down the path above.

We get a daytime view of this location in a deleted scene from David Lynch’s motion picture. Bobby arrives in the woods driving his 1969 Plymouth Barracuda.

It’s the same car that we see earlier in the theatrical release where “Mike is the man!”

You can see the parking lot in the distance in this image above.

The scene appears on screen exactly as it appears in the August 8, 1991 script:

EXT.  THE WOODS – DAY

Bobby’s car skids to a stop.  Bobby jumps out and pops the trunk. He unwraps the big bag of cocaine from a blanket.  He tears a little hole in it to enjoy a taste test.  The second it touches the tongue he panics and frantically takes a deeper test.

  BOBBY
(screaming)
LAXATIVE!

He sprays and throws the powder every which way in a rage.

BOBBY (continued)
SSSSHHHIIITTTT!!!

His reaction was pretty much spot on. I can only imagine how much fun Dana Ashbrook had filming this scene.

The overgrown area looks a little different today, yet many of the trees are still there. Interestingly, just down the path above is where the scene of Dale Cooper and Laura Palmer from Twin Peaks Parts 17 and 18 were shot. But that’s another story.

VIDEO FROM OLALLIE STATE PARK

Enjoy a short video from this scene. It was raining the day I shot it which makes it sounds even more peaceful.
