In Twin Peaks Part 6 on Showtime, Janey-E Jones stands up to Tommy and Jimmy in a local Las Vegas park. These two thugs who wanted Dougie Jones to pay $52,000 on a $20,000 loan he took out of gambling expenses. In reality, this scene was shot at Anthony C. Beilenson Park near Lake Balboa in Van Nuys, California.
WHERE IS THE SCENE WITH JANEY-E JONES’ 99-PERCENT MONOLOGUE LOCATED?
The park is located at 6300 Balboa Blvd, Van Nuys which is circled in red on the aerial map from Google shown above. It’s nearby some other Twin Peaks film locations including the Twin Peaks airport, Dr. Jacoby’s office exterior, and to Silver Mustang Casino in Part 16 on Showtime.
The park was named in 1998 for Anthony Charles Beilenson, a former Democratic Congressman from Southern California who served ten terms in the United States House of Representatives, from 1977 until 1997. He died in March 2017 at the age of 84.
The park was originally named Lake Balboa Park. In the mid-1980s, California appropriated $10 million to develop 160 acres as a park and 60 acres as a wildlife reserve. The city of Los Angeles matched the money and by 1990, the park opened around a 26-acre fishing and boating lake.

JANEY-E SITTING ON A BENCH
The scene opens with a slow pan from a child swinging on a swing set to Janey-E sitting on a concrete bench at the park. I created a panoramic image from the opening shot of this scene.
Janey-E is clutching her red Dooney & Bourke handbag, which she waits for Tommy and Jimmy to arrive.
Interestingly, there is a publicity shot from this episode by photographer Suzanne Tenner which shows a different angle.

JANEY-E CONFRONTS THE THUGS
Janey-E stands to greet the two thugs
Janey-E Jones: Now let’s get to it. Explain to me exactly what Dougie did to make him owe you money.
Jimmy: He borrowed it.
Janey-E Jones: What do you mean, “he borrowed it”?
Tommy: He took points on a football game. He got greedy, he doubled down. It didn’t work out for him. Out 20 grand he was, plus interest. Now, that was three weeks ago.
Jimmy: Meter’s still running. It’s up to 52.
Janey-E Jones: So let me get this straight. People were playing games. He made a bet where he lost $20,000. But you want him to pay you back $52,000?
Tommy: Very good. That’s correct.
Janie-E Jones: Okay, so you get this straight. My husband has a job, he has a wife, he has a child, he does not make enough money to pay back $52,000 for anything. We are not wealthy people. We drive cheap, terrible cars. We are the 99 percenters. And we are shit on enough, and we are certainly not gonna be shit on by the likes of you.
Jimmy: Nevertheless, lady…
Janey-E Jones: So here’s what we’re gonna do. Without my knowledge, my husband came to you for a loan of $20,000. You were nice enough to give it to him. But he should never have been gambling like that. I’m gonna pay you back. Now, at my bank, where we make less than one percent interest on what little money we have, people would be turning cartwheels just to get 25 percent interest on any loan, and that is what I’m generously gonna give to you right now, $25,000. That is my first, last, and only offer to you. What kind of world are we living in where people can behave like this? Treat other people this way without any compassion or feeling for their suffering? We are living in a dark, dark age, and you are part of the problem. Now, I suggest you take a good, long look at yourselves because I never want to see either of you again.[she leaves]
Janey-E shares her thoughts about the current state of the world and ends up giving the thugs $25,000, not $52,000 like they originally wanted.
THE THUGS CONCLUDE JANEY-E IS A TOUGH DAME
Jimmy: Tough dame.
Tommy: Tough.
Tommy and Jimmy are left in shock as Janey-E storms away. Jimmy is blocking a bush in the episode which is seen to the right of the image above.
I just love this entire scene as Naomi Watts’ performance is top notch.
