In several episodes of Twin Peaks Season 3 on Showtime, Janey-E Jones, wife of Dougie Jones, is seen carrying a red handbag. The first appearance of this handbag is in Part 6 when she visits a local park to pay back loan money to Tommy and Jimmy. I identified the handbag thanks to a gold plaque attached to its side.
JANEY-E JONES’ RED HANDBAG
Janey-E is first seen holding the red handbag while sitting on a concrete bench in a local park in Part 6.
As the thugs Tommy and Jimmy approach Janey-E, she stands and walks toward them with the bag in hand. She explains to the thugs that her family won’t be paying the full $52,000 Dougie owes, but she will pay back his original loan amount with 25% interest.
As Janey-E reaches into the red handbag, we catch a glimpse of a gold square plaque mounted on the side. I’ve photographed numerous similar handbags during the past eight years for my job, so I immediately recognized the manufacturer – Dooney & Bourke.
A quick search for red handbags on the Dooney & Bourke website turned up a match – a Pebble Grain Lexington Shopper. The website description reads:
“The Pebble Grain Collection is renowned for the rich texture and exceptional durability of its leather. Designed to be your go-to bag, this tote presents you with a classic silhouette that’s stylish, but also functional enough to store everything in your busy on-the-go life.”
The handbag has one outside pocket, one inside zip pocket and two inside pockets. It also has a cell phone pocket and an inside key hook. The strap drop length is 12″. It measures H 12″ x W 4″ x L 14″ and weighs 2lbs 5oz.

The bag makes several more appearances throughout the rest of the season. Let’s take a look at where it turns up.
TWIN PEAKS – PART 7
Janey-E is seen carrying the red handbag when she visits Dougie Jones at Lucky 7 Insurance in Part 7.
TWIN PEAKS – PART 10
The bag is seen on the floor next to Janey-E when Dougie visits Doctor Ben in Part 10.
TWIN PEAKS – PART 13
In Part 13, the red bag is in the backseat of Janey-E’s car.
TWIN PEAKS – PART 16
At Memorial Hospital in Part 16, Janey-E is carrying the bag both in Dougie’s room and down a hallway.
The final appearance of the red handbag is also in Part 16 at the Silver Mustang Casino when Cooper says farewell to Janey-E and Sonny-Jim.
Janey-E has a second handbag which I have not identified yet. It appears in two episodes – Part 5 and Part 10.
More than likely, these scenes were shot around the same time and before the Dooney & Bourke handbag was introduced in Part 6. Sonny-Jim is wearing the same outfit from Part 16 when they visit Dougie at Memorial Hospital. I guess at some point she switched handbags.
I love the red Dooney and Bourke handbag that appears in Part 6.
