The tour of scenes shot inside Sybil Brand Institute in Los Angeles, California continues with a look at Mr. C’s jail cell at Yankton Federal Prison. These interior scenes appear in Twin Peaks Parts 5 and 7 on Showtime.
As previously discussed, Sybil Brand Institute is a former women’s correctional facility that closed in 1997. Located at
The first appearance of Mr. C’s jail cell appears in Part 5.
Thanks to LocoScout.com, above is an image of a similar jail cell from Sybil Brand Institute. I don’t believe it’s the exact one where Mr. C is laying but the sink appears to match.
Part 5 offers another look at the jail cells inside Yankton Federal Prison when a guard delivers food. I still remember flipping out when this episode first aired after seeing BOB’s face merged with Mr. C’s face.
For Part 7, we are given a better idea where exactly this scene was shot. Notice the numbers above the cells as Mr. C is escorted by two guards.
It appears Mr. C is placed inside cell 28 by the guards.
Thanks to a YouTube video by the New York Film Academy, we get a look at where this scene was shot. Director and write Gilbert Shilton is seen standing in front of cell 28 in the same area.
Later in Part 7, Mr. C is released from his cell around 1:00 a.m.
That same video from New York Film Academy contains a similar shot.
Strangely, Mr. C is seen leaving from cell 27, not 28 where he was placed earlier in the episode. My gut tells me this decision was made as it offered a better shot. Just look at that image above – spectacular!
The image is so spectacular that it was one of the official publicity photos taken by Suzanne Tenner for Showtime. Notice Mr. C is still standing outside cell 27.
Ray Monroe meets up with Mr. C outside the prison cell and they continue walking down the hall.
The second publicity photo for this episode by Suzanne Tenner shows Ray and Mr. C walking down the same hall that’s lit differently. The door to cell 27 is open in this shot.
One final image from the YouTube video from New York Film Academy shows three actors outside cell 27 inside Sybil Brand.”
