Twin Peaks Film Location – Goodnight Kiss on August 5

In a previous article, I discussed the film location in Twin Peaks Part 8 on Showtime where a boy (played by Xolo Maridueña) and a girl (played by Tikaeni Faircrest) find a lucky penny near a gas station in New Mexico. The scene set in 1956 continues with the couple walking along a dirt path before sharing a goodnight kiss. This scene, like its predecessor, was also shot in southern California.

FINDING THE SPOT

Like other scenes from Season 3, I figured they probably filmed the “lucky penny” and “the kiss” scenes around the same area. This approach, where all the scenes of a particular part were filmed around the same time and in the same area, helped saved time and money during the production.

Part 8

Lynch even confirmed some of this approach in the behind the scenes videos on the Blu-ray release.

The key to identifying the second part of this scene was the image above of the solitary building.

I expanded my aerial search on Google Maps before finding the house in the red circle. The approximate coordinates for their walk and kiss are 34°23’50.6″N 118°43’02.3″W.

This gives you a better idea of how far the scene are apart. I believe both areas are part of Newhall Film area that Location Manager Eric Fierstein alluded to in a Variety article.

The area circled in red is the spot as seen from E. Telegraph Road / Highway 126 in Castiac, California.

Part of that solitary building can be seen in this image from Part 8.

Thanks once again to a public image folder I found on the internets, we can get a better look at the area in the daylight. Once again, this area is private property so this is probably as close as I will get to seeing it in person.

KISSING TIME

The first kiss scene was shot in front of some trees by the front of the house. The top image is from the episode while the bottom image was taken by onset photographer Suzanne Tenner (by the way, I ADORE her work for the series … which is another post for another time).

THE HOUSE

After sharing a kiss, the girl walks toward her house.

The same public image folder from before also had this image of the house. I recognized the siding and the support beams on the front porch. The approximate coordinates for this home are 34°23’49.2″N 118°43’04.7″W.

Additionally, you can barely see the two car garage in the background of the episode image above (I lightened it in Photoshop to identify it). It’s still private property, so this is as close as I will get to visiting the spot.

Interestingly, the publicity photo by Suzanne Tenner shows a full body image of the boy in the “Goodnight Kiss” scene. It’s something that doesn’t appear in the episode.
