In Twin Peaks Part 18 on Showtime, there is a short nighttime transition scene of Richard/Cooper and Carrie Page leaving Odessa, Texas. While the scene lasts only eight seconds, I located it on September 11, 2017 thanks to a road sign.
The scene was shot on Provo Canyon Road just outside Orem, UT.
During the scene, I could see a green road sign in the distance. My fiancee Katie determined the name on the sign was “Orem.”
I looked up Orem, UT on Google Maps and followed roads outside the town. It was the yellow warning sign that confirmed I was on the correct path. You can see it superimposed over Richard/Cooper’s face during the scene transition (see image at top).
I also matched the “Do Not Enter” road sign to confirm this was the actual location.
Part of this footage was used in Part 13 when Chantel and Hutch are shown driving at night.
I don’t believe this footage is stock like the exterior of Diane’s Apartment. Rather, I think this footage was captured by Jason S. when creating “Impressions: A Journey Behind the Scenes of Twin Peaks” for the Season 3 Blu-ray set.
I need to find an aerial shot from those short films to confirm, but I recall an image that looked quite similar to images from Google Maps.
Interesting side note … a route from Odessa, TX to “Twin Peaks, WA” would have Richard/Cooper and Carrie passing through Orem, UT. I plotted a route from Odessa to Metaline Falls, WA, which was the closest city in the region to where Twin Peaks is supposed to exist. The trip would take approximately 28 hours.
I live in Orem and grew up in Provo. It blew my mind when I saw this shot in my favorite tv show! I admit, I totally missed it my first time through The Return. I had to drive there immediately and check it out. There’s a POWER STATION about 30 seconds south out of the mouth of the canyon. Even better is that this canyon and power station is between two prominent mountains. ^¥^ mount timpanogos and cascade mountain, making the owl/mountain symbol. Trust me, it’s awesome.
Also, if you chart a path from south Dakota to Las Vegas (Chantal and hutch’s journey) you can easily pass through Provo canyon.
